TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KLIX) – Come mid-September teens will have a new after-school program to attend at the Herrett Center for Arts and Science on the College of Southern Idaho campus.

The free program, called the After School Teen Community for the Humanities and will start in mid-September for 12 weeks, is open to students in grades 9-12. It is funded by the Idaho Humanities Council and, according to information from the college, is the first of its kind in the state.

“The teens will have a unique opportunity to go behind the scenes at the Herrett Center with a diverse group of new peers,” Laura Browarny, education facilitator, said in a prepared statement. Among the activities are field trips and guest-speaker presentations. “We’re creating a safe place for open dialogue about the past, present and future of southern Idaho.”

Some field trips on Saturdays will take the place of weekday meetings, according to the news release. Space is limited to 25 students. Transportation to and from the Herrett Center may be arranged.

Applications are being accepted through Sept. 6. Those who are accepted into the program will be notified on Sept. 9. For more information, contact Browarny at lbrowarny@csi.edu or 732-6664.
