Another Quake Hits Challis Area
Challis, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) – Another earthquake is being reported in the Challis area this Monday afternoon. The epicenter was 14 miles north of Challis. This time it registered as a 4.6 magnitude. On Saturday the area experienced a 4.9. The quake was reported at 2:16 pm Monday and was felt as far away as Hailey.
According to the Custer County Sheriff’s Office, many people reported feeling the quake but so far there has not been any report of damage.
Idaho’s first news meteorologist Brian Neudorff said “For the last two weeks, a cluster of nearly 20 earthquakes of magnitude 2.5 or greater has shook Custer County Idaho, 6 to 14 miles north-northwest of Challis Idaho.
The strongest earthquakes have been a 4.9 magnitude quake around 6:00 p.m. MDT on Saturday April 12th and a 4.1 magnitude quake on Thursday April 10th around 6:20 a.m. MDT.
There have been no reports of damage from these quakes, but residents in the area have reported items knocked off wall and shelves and have been felt from as far away as the Wood River region just north of Ketchum.”
