On this day in rock history, the Beatles released the soundtrack to Help!, with seven of its 14 songs featured in the band's new color film. One of the non-film songs featured on the album is "Yesterday," the most covered song in history.

Guns N' Roses saw Appetite for Destruction finally reach No. 1 on this date, more than a year after its release. Neil Young issued his emotional tribute to Kurt Cobain, Sleeps with Angels, while Tom Petty released She's the One. The latter served as the soundtrack for a film of the same name, written and directed by Edward Burns.

The Small Faces began their well-respected career with the debut single "Whatcha Gonna Do," a No. 14 UK hit. (Ian Samwell wrote the lyric to match music already in place by Steve Marriott and Ronnie Lane.) And Steven Tyler fell off a stage, a mishap serious enough that Aerosmith cancelled their tour. He was hospitalized with head and neck injuries, and later admitted to being high at the time.
