The Used Gets Set to Release New Album, ‘Vulnerable,’ On Its Own Label
Parting ways with a major record label can devastate or invigorate a band.
For the Used, it seems to be the latter. Singer Bert McCracken says his Utah-bred group will release its near-finished fifth studio album, ‘Vulnerable,’ in early 2012 on its own Dental Records.

Courtney Love Steps In Last Minute for Vince Neil at Fashion Week Concert
Last year, Courtney Love was a no-show in London at an impromptu gig by her revived band, Hole.
Last week, Love served as a pinch hitter of sorts when another notable and controversial rocker, Motley Crue singer Vince Neil, backed out of his scheduled pre-Fashion Week performance in New York.
Kurt Cobain Model Fender Jaguar Guitar Arrives in Stores This Month [PHOTO]
Certain guitarists are known for playing certain makes and models. Jimi Hendrix was quite loyal to the Fender Stratocaster. Former KISS member Ace Frehley has made a good living with the Gibson Les Paul. And AC/DC‘s Angus Young has a thing for the Gibson SG.
For Nirvana leader Kurt Cobain, the electric guitar he’s probably most identified with is the Fender Jaguar. By mid-to-late September, musici
‘American Idol’ Alum James Durbin Inks Deal with Wind-up Records
Finishing fourth on ‘American Idol’ isn’t necessarily detrimental to a music career, especially for singers whose registers are best suited for rock.
Things have turned out just fine for Chris Daughtry, season five’s fourth-place finalist. And so far, the likelihood for sustained success is looking good for the season 10 equivalent, James Durbin, who recently signed a contract with Wind-up Records

Shia LaBeouf Directs Marilyn Manson in Creepy ‘Born Villain’ Music Video
It seems so far-fetched, even by Hollywood’s standards: Actor Shia LaBeouf, star of ‘Transformers’ and other mainstream blockbuster films, rubbing elbows with musician Marilyn Manson, the reigning king of shock rock.
But not only are they friends, they’re also collaborators. And the result of their recent work together is now available for the world to see — the graphic and NSFW video directed by
My Chemical Romance Jams with Queen’s Brian May at Reading Festival [VIDEO]
Clapping to the beat and triumphantly raising his microphone above his head, My Chemical Romance singer Gerard Way channeled his inner Freddie Mercury while the band played the Reading Festival set in England last weekend.
Adding to the Queen connection was a guest appearance by the legendary British band’s own Brian May, who joined My Chem onstage to play guitar on signature songs by both groups.
Chickenfoot Drummer Chad Smith Looks to Kenny Aronoff to Replace Him on Tour
Side projects aren’t supposed to conflict with a musician’s main gig, but sometimes it does happen — just ask Chad Smith, the longtime Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer who also keeps the beat for the supergroup Chickenfoot.
The Chili Peppers and Chickenfoot have new studio albums coming out very soon. And with the likelihood that both bands will be on the road at the same time, Smith has called in a
How Moody Was Kurt Cobain When Nirvana Recorded ‘Nevermind?’
As the release date gets closer for the 20th-anniversary editions of Nirvana’s ‘Nevermind,’ some of the album’s key figures have been sharing their memories about the sessions and the band’s frontman, Kurt Cobain.
Producer Butch Vig admits not knowing how to deal with Cobain’s mood swings when the band was recording demos of ‘Lithium’ and other eventual ‘Nevermind’ tracks at Vig’s Wisconsin studio
Mastodon, Nickelback and Others Appear on Album Celebrating ZZ Top, ‘A Tribute From Friends’
The hats, the videos and let’s not forget those long beards: Visually, ZZ Top certainly has left a lasting impression on popular culture over the last four decades.
But many of the Texas trio’s songs are just as memorable. That is confirmed by the wide range of contemporary rock acts — including Mastodon, Coheed & Cambria, Nickelback and Wolfmother — that have recorded 11 of ZZ Top’s tunes for
