TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KLIX) – Bestselling author and Pulitzer-prize winning New York Times reporter and columnist Timothy Egan will be visiting Twin Falls this week.

Egan, the author of a number of New York Times bestselling books, will speak at 1 p.m. on Thursday at the Fine Arts Theater on the College of Southern Idaho campus.

His latest book is “The Immortal Irishman: The Irish Revolutionary Who Became an American Hero," tells the story of Thomas Francis Meagher, a 19th-century Irish rebel who was banished to Tasmania by the English, but escaped to America and fought in the American Civil War as Union general of an Irish Brigade.

Egan does his homework, and puts all of the research together in an interesting tale the reads more like a novel than a history book.

A couple of his other bestselling works include “The Big Burn: Teddy Roosevelt and the Fire That Saved America,” which was the inspiration for a 2014 American Experience documentary, and “The Worst Hard Time: The Untold Story of Those Who Survived the Great American Dust Bowl.” “Hard Time”  won the 2006 National Book Award for nonfiction.

The Thursday event is free and open to the public, but Egan also will be the guest speaker at an event the same night at Canyon Crest Event Center. Tickets for this event, which begins at 7 p.m., are $45. A no-host bar will open for the event at 6 p.m.

For tickets, call the Idaho Humanities Council, the sponsor of the events, at 345-5346. General tickets are $45. Benefactor tickets are $75, offering an invitation to a pre-event private reception with Egan at 5 p.m. and preferred seating at the dinner and lecture.

In advance of the events, Egans books are available at Barnes & Noble in Twin Falls.
