Birds Flock to Fields near Grand View Drive (PHOTOS)
A flock of birds landed several times in fields on Friday morning near Grand View Drive. I was lucky enough to have my camera with me at the time, and was able to snap a few photos of the black birds.
I learned early on in my career that it’s always best to carry a camera whenever possible, because as a journalist you never know when you might want it. This wasn’t a breaking news story, not a spot news story, or even a feature story. I just thought it was interesting, more so than I normally would, perhaps, because I had my camera with me at the time. I hadn’t seen this large of flock in a long time.
The birds would startle every time a car or truck passed by them on the road, and they would flit to the sky before again settling in the fields. After a few landings, each time shortly thereafter taking to the gray sky above, the birds decided it was time to move on – a swarm of black dots distancing themselves from me, moving as one body against the November sky.
A few minutes later, a lone cat was seen sitting in one of the same fields, as if it were wondering how it caught not one bird and hoping they would return.
