MCCAMMON, Idaho (AP) — A state trooper euthanized a 200-pound female black bear that suffered severe injuries when it was struck by a car driven by a 16-year-old girl in southeast Idaho.

The Idaho State Journal reports 16-year-old Claire Morgan was driving northbound on Interstate 15 on Saturday morning when the bear emerged from bushes and bolted in front of the car. Morgan's dad, Lane, was in the passenger seat and says at 80 miles per hour, they didn't have time to stop and avoid the bear.

The bear hit the windshield, flew over the roof of the car and sustained a shattered shoulder. State police gave Morgan the bear, and he says he plans to have it stuffed. His daughter, however, says she'll probably try to convince him not to keep it.
