BLM Crews Battle Several Fires in Southwest Idaho

GLENNS FERRY, Idaho (KLIX) – Fire crews are keeping busy battling several blazes in southwest Idaho.

Five fires were started by lightning strikes Sunday evening, according to the Bureau of Land Management, including two south of Glenns Ferry and another three south of Hammett.

The fire that has burned the most acres so far is the Kinyon Springs Fire, about 16 miles south of the Glenns Ferry. It burned about 1,466 before crews could contain it. The BLM said it expected to have the blaze controlled by this afternoon.

The Sailor Fire, located about 22 miles south of Hammett near the Sailor Creek Day Station, has burned about 363 acres. It also is contained, and crews expect to have it controlled by 6 p.m. today.

Neither fire posed a threat to structures. The other wildfires include:

Twin Butte Fire: Located about 14 miles south of the Glenns Ferry, this blaze has burned about 40 acres. The blaze is contained, with a controlled estimate time of 6 p.m. today. No structures are threatened by the flames.

Winter Camp North Fire: Located about 20 miles south of Hammett, this blaze has burned about 60 acres. This blaze is not yet contained. Crews expect that will happen by about 9 p.m. today; they expect to have it controlled by 10 p.m. No structures are threatened.

Antelope Butte Fire: Located about seven miles south of Sailor Creek Day Station, this lightning-caused fire has burned about 176 acres. The fire is contained with a controlled estimate time of 5 p.m. today. The fire has burned grass and brush; no structures are threatened.
