STANLEY, Idaho (KTVB) -- Custer County officials say a Burley man is presumed drowned after diving into Redfish Lake Saturday afternoon.

Joel Castro Juarez, 23, was boating on Redfish Lake approximately 200 yards from Point Campground when he jumped from his boat to retrieve a piece of clothing. According to Custer County officials, Juarez was quickly overcome by cold water shock and had trouble returning to the boat.

Two people who were in Juarez's boat jumped in the water to save him, but had difficulty lifting him back into the boat and were quickly overcome by the cold water themselves. Officials say the area in which Juarez was last seen is in deep water. Marine patrol and the Custer County search and rescue team looked for Juarez until dark, but found no sign of him.

The search resumed Sunday morning with volunteers, divers, a water search dog, and a submersible robot scouring the area for the missing man. Deputies from Bonneville and Bingham counties joined the effort as well. Juarez was not wearing a life jacket.
