The speed limit currently is listed at 45 mph, but the request by Traffic Safety Commission is to reduce it to 35 mph because a new elementary school, Pillar Falls Elementary, has been built in the vicinity and there’s been concern from a parent group about children walking to and from school.

“The jurisdiction of Hankins Road is complicated,” reads information from the city. “In this area, the Twin Falls Highway District controls the intersection of Falls and Hankins south to the edge of the Boy Scout Property,” while the city has jurisdiction of both sides of the road from Filer Avenue East north to the Morning Sun subdivisions.

The Twin Falls Highway District has agreed to enable a consistent posting of 35 mph on Hankins Road between its intersections with Falls Avenue East and Filer Avenue East.

The Traffic Safety Commission met in October to address the issue and is recommending approval of a speed reduction in this area.

The City Council also will hear this evening, among other agenda items, a request to place a flag pole at the new City Hall location, and a U.S., state and POW flag at the new City Hall, police station, fire station and airport.

Council members also will hear an update on construction of the Main Avenue alleyway from Shoshone to Idaho. The meeting begins at 5 p.m. at the Twin Falls City Council Chambers, 305 Third Avenue East.
