TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KLIX) – Demolition of the Rogerson building, at the corner of Main Avenue and Hansen Street, will take place this weekend.

The city will close Main Avenue from Shoshone Street to Idaho Street at 7 p.m. Saturday for the demolition and cleanup. The road will reopen at 7 a.m. Monday. Hansen will remain closed to traffic between Second Avenue and Main Avenue.

“It is always sad to see a part of our history being removed, but the Rogerson building had deteriorated beyond repair and was [no] longer safe or salvageable,” Dan Brizee, chairman of the Board of Directors for the Twin Falls Urban Renewal Agency, said in a  prepared statement.

The building is being razed to make way for the Downtown Commons, which will sit across from the future City Hall and provide a venue for public events.

According to the city, pedestrians may watch the demolition from the south side of the intersection at Main Avenue and Hansen Street. The area around the building will be closed for safety reasons.

“Our hopes are that the Downtown Commons will continue the Rogerson’s heritage by providing public art and venues where we can gather as a community,” Brizee said.
