COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) — A Coeur d'Alene man has been accused of murder in connection to the death of his 1-year-old stepson.

Joseph John Davis on Thursday was charged with first-degree murder in the death of Maliki Wilburn, who died Aug. 28 of head trauma.

According to court records, the 17-month-old boy was experiencing breathing difficulty and showing signs of obvious head trauma on Aug. 26 when he was brought to the hospital.

Davis was originally charged with felony injury to a child, but after the toddler died on his injuries prosecutors announced their intent to amend the charges.
