College Football And Crime Poll

Sports Illustrated just release an extensive investigation of the criminal records of those football players who make up the Top 25 BCS teams from last year.  And YES, Boise State made the cut.  I'll fill you in on what they found after the jump.

The new Sports Illustrated issue reveals that about 7% of the top 25 BCS college football teams have a criminal record.  If you zero in on the Boise State Bronco football team, which made the top 25 in 2010, this is what you find:

16 Boise State players on the 2010 roster have a criminal record. That puts the Broncos at No. 4 among preseason Top 25 teams from last fall.

Number 4?  For once this ranking is one BSU wants nothing to do with.  According to Sports Illustrated the Broncos have 16 players that have been charged with crimes.

Hey at least it's not as bad as Pittsburg, who came in at number 1 with 22 players charged.  And if the Bronco's don't loath TCU enough, they ranked very last with ZERO players charged.

So what does this mean?  Are the Bronco's just a bunch of thugs?  I don't think so, here's some points from OBNug.com:

Boise State does not have the fourth-highest crime rate in college football. It has the fourth-highest crime rate among Sports Illustrated's preseason Top 25 teams in 2010.

The Broncos, in their statement, acknowledge that crime exists among its student athletes, just like it does on every campus across America (except TCU, according to the SI report). More importantly, the Broncos have a reputable history of dealing with athletes who break the law.

I'm not saying that crimes should go unpunished, but sometimes you need to deal with "family drama" as a family.  Then again, I'm just a DJ who loves college football and beer and chicken wings....SO? What do you think?
