BOISE, Idaho (AP) — An Idaho legislative committee has endorsed a bill that would expands worker's compensation benefits for Idaho's firefighters to recognize job-related cancer risks.

The Spokesman-Review reports that the House Commerce Committee on Thursday endorsed the bill, which has been in the works for 16 years.

The Senate has passed the bill twice in broader forms, but this iteration changes worker's compensation law to presume that certain cancers, within certain time periods, are job-related for firefighters. It includes volunteer firefighters, which previous versions of the bill did not.

The bill now moves to the full House.
