Community Rallies Around Dog Struck by Car Near Middleton

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The community is rallying around an injured dog found on Idaho Highway 44 near Middleton.

The Idaho Statesman reports the dog was found Wednesday morning by a woman on her way to work. She called 911 to report the injured animal and directed traffic around the dog until she could get it to move off the highway. At about 6:30 a.m., Middleton Police Sgt. Walker arrived at the scene. He set off on foot to look for the dog, walking about a quarter mile in the snow. But the dog was gone.

About an hour later, a resident who works at West Valley Humane Society in Caldwell contacted the Canyon County Sheriff's Office about the stray, injured dog. Walker worked with local volunteers, veterinarians and rescue organizations to get the dog the help it needed. Now volunteers are rallying the community to pay for the dog's treatment and look for its family.
