BOISE, Idaho (AP) — U.S. Sen. Mike Crapo from Idaho has announced that he will be running for his fourth consecutive term in the Senate in 2016.

The Idaho Republican has represented the Gem State in the U.S. Senate since 1998. He was re-elected in 2010 with 71 percent of the vote after running unopposed in 2004. Crapo said in a prepared statement that he will continue to fight for the Idaho's conservative values in Washington. Crapo, a Mormon who practiced law before entering politics, lives in Idaho Falls with his wife Susan and his five children.

He made headlines in January 2013 when he pleaded guilty to a drunken driving charge in Virginia. Crapo previously served in the U.S. House of Representatives and the Idaho State Senate. Idaho has not elected a Democratic U.S. Senator since 1974.
