NEW YORK (AP) — How much coffee do you drink every day? One cup in the morning? Or do you gulp it all day? Scientists have long known that your DNA influences how much java you consume.

Now a huge study has identified some genes that may play a role. The researchers analyzed results from previous studies that included more than 120,000 participants. They looked for tiny variations in the participants' DNA that correlated with how much coffee they usually drank. The results implicated six genes that had not previously been linked to coffee consumption. Four were related to how the body handles or reacts to caffeine. None of them affects how intensely a person tastes coffee. The work was released Tuesday by the journal Molecular Psychiatry.
