Filer, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) - The group wanting to recall the Filer Mayor and city council have turned in valid prospective petitions.

That happened early this Tuesday morning. Twin Falls County Elections director Valerie Varadi said the group has turned in the necessary 20 signatures needed to continue the process. Now they have 75 days to collect 201 signatures each on separate petitions for Mayor Rick Dunn and the four Council Members.

If the group gathers the necessary names and they are verified by the Twin Falls County Clerk’s office, the elected official will have five days to resign. If they do not, then the county will call for an election. That could happen on August 26, if the process is completed by July 7. If not, then an election will be held during elections on November 4.

To be recalled, each city official will need to have at least the equal number of people who voted for them to say they want them recalled. Since Councilman Donald Barkley was appointed, he will need a simple majority.

According to the Secretary of State's office, if all members of the city council and the mayor were recalled, the Governor's office would step in and appoint enough council members to create a quorum. It would then be up to the new council to appoint the remaining members and to name a mayor.
