Get ready to soar through the skies of Eorzea on the back of a Black Chocobo or on your personal own airship in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.

IGN reports that Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn's first expansion, Heavensward, will bring all sorts of new features to the game, including the introduction of flying mounts. FFXIV game director and producer Naoki Yoshida announced this information at the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival 2014 in London this week. He confirmed that the MMORPG would be getting flying mounts, personalized airships and a new Dark Knight tanking job. Yoshida explained that the first flying mount you will encounter would likely be a Black Chocobo as per Final Fantasy IV, but you'll eventually get Cid to build your own flying airship in the story. Taking off and landing will only be permitted in the new zones of Heavensward and the expansion will have flying islands and rocks to encourage exploration.

There are currently six flying mounts in development, so don't expect a World of Warcraft-like astronomical number of them. One of them will be pivotal to the expansion's story and it is likely that the Collector's Edition of the expansion will have a variation of one of the flying mounts as well.

Dark Knights will use greatswords and the power of darkness to tank. There won't be any base classes required to play the job other than a simple level requirement.

We can expect Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward to debut sometime in spring 2015 for all versions of A Realm Reborn.

We hope these summons get added into FFXIV:
