BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The headstone of a former Idaho governor and his wife has been vandalized with purple paint in a Boise cemetery.

Police tell the Idaho Statesman that the headstone of Gov. Robert Smylie and his wife, Lucille, had graffiti put on it sometime Monday or Tuesday. Smylie served as governor from 1955 to 1967. He and his wife died in 2004 within five weeks of each other.

The headstone of pioneer Boise businessman Nathan Falk also had graffiti on it. Police say graffiti was also found on a garage door and a fence at a residence.
