HORSESHOE BEND (KTVB) -- The former money manager for the Horseshoe Bend School District has pleaded guilty to misuse of public funds.

Robb Greiner was accused of pocketing more than $53,000 between April 2011 and summer of 2013. Prosecutors say he wrote himself checks from the school district's accounts.

The missing money was discovered after Greiner left the position in 2013 and his replacement noticed discrepancies in the budget.

The theft only exacerbated the Horseshoe Bend School District's monetary woes. In the wake of dwindling budgets and a failed levy, district leaders warned layoffs and the death of programs could be in store.

That possibility was averted when voters passed a $300,000 levy in May.

Greiner is set for sentencing Oct. 8.
