LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) — A gang member who killed a University of Idaho football player and wounded two other people in Los Angeles is going to prison for life.

City News Service says 25-year-old John Fitzgerald Kennedy of Long Beach was sentenced to 173 years to life on Tuesday for second-degree murder and other crimes. Prosecutors say Kennedy opened fire in 2012 when a fight broke out at a party attended by 22-year-old University of Idaho wide receiver Ken McRoyal of Carson.

Another man was wounded. Authorities say a month-and-a-half earlier, Kennedy wounded a woman outside a Harbor City club after his brother was shot and killed inside.
