Guns N’ Roses have covered AC/DC‘s “Whole Lotta Rosie” in concert before. But at their show in Zurich on June 6, singer  Axl Rose revealed a personal reason for performing the song.

“When we play this song, nobody really knows that … when I’m singing this song, I actually, in my head, I see this little dog of ours with me onstage, ’cause she’s always so f—ing happy,” he told the audience at Letzigrund Stadion before the band played the song. “Before we came to the show today, she passed away. So we’ll dedicate this to her. Kind of the whole show for me in mind has been for Rosie.”

You can watch two different fan-shot videos of the performance above and below.

The 1977 AC/DC track has been part of Guns N’ Roses’ sets off and on going all the way back to the mid ’80s. Rose sang the song onstage with AC/DC last year when he replaced their singer, Brian Johnson, on tour. Johnson was forced to drop out of the band’s shows after hearing issues surfaced.

Guns N’ Roses performed “Whole Lotta Rosie” earlier this year with AC/DC guitarist Angus Young joining them when their tour hit Australia. The reunited GNR are currently on tour in Europe. They return to North America at the end of July for another run of Not in This Lifetime … tour dates through the end of November.

At least one member of the band hopes a new record will come out of the reunion, which finds guitarist Slash and bassist Duff McKagan performing with Rose for the first time in years. Guitarist Richard Fortus recently said they’ve “been recording a lot of stuff, just ideas, assembling ideas, but not going into a studio and actually tracking a new record. … I definitely hope that we do, and I think we’re all sort of counting on it, and we’re also planning on it.”
