HAILEY, Idaho (AP) — A central Idaho airport that serves the resort areas of Sun Valley and Ketchum will be closed to all flights for nearly a month due to construction.

The Idaho Mountain Express reports that Friedman Memorial Airport in Hailey will shut down starting in late April so work can be done to make the facility safer and put it into compliance with federal safety regulations. The newspaper based in Ketchum reports that the closure starting April 26 and scheduled to last to May 20 is part of a $34 million construction project.

When the airport closes, workers plan to reconfigure airplane taxiways, demolish six private plan hangers and alter a public parking lot. Work will also continue on expanding and remodeling the terminal.
