BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Police are trying to identify human remains found in the Boise Foothills.

KIVI-TV reports that the Ada County Sheriff's Office says a woman found the remains while walking her dogs Saturday.

The remains appear to be of an adult and were found about a mile away from a Bureau of Land Management gate that closes the road to vehicles during the winter.

The Ada County Coroner's Office is examining the remains to determine the age, sex and identity of the person.

Detectives don't yet know what happened. The remains appear to have been there for an extended period of time.
