IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (AP) — An Idaho Falls company has been awarded a $42 million contract to provide support services at the U.S. Department of Energy's New Mexico office.

The Post Register reports that Portage Inc. has worked with the DOE's New Mexico office for the past five years. Under the new contract, the company will continue providing technical services, auditing and safety and environmental oversight at the office in Carlsbad.

The DOE office oversees the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant, an underground repository where transuranic radioactive waste is stored. The plant has been closed since 2014 after a container of waste ruptured, leaving trace amounts of americium and plutonium.
