Idaho Dems Upset Over Block Bills

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Democratic House lawmakers are blasting Republican leaders for refusing to give legislative hearings on bills backed by the minority party.

The criticism comes just days after Republican House lawmakers agreed to introduce a proposal designed to keep Shariah law and other foreign codes out of Idaho courts or government agencies. House Minority Leader Rep. John Rusche, of Lewiston, said Friday that his caucus has 11 bills waiting legislative hearings that address more important issues.

Those bills range from increasing minimum wage to expanding broadband internet in rural areas. Committee chairmen have the ability to block legislative hearings if they feel there isn't enough support inside their caucus or leadership.
