BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Idaho residents will still be able to use their driver's licenses to go through airport security for at least another year.

The Spokesman-Review reports the state has been granted a one-year extension on federal requirements to comply with the REAL ID Act. The Idaho Transportation Department says it received a letter from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on Wednesday granting the extension. States across the nation are in various stages of compliance with the REAL ID law, which passed in 2005.

Idaho lawmakers passed legislation in 2008 preventing the state from having to comply with the law. But the state law was amended this year to allow ITD to enhance the security of state ID cards and driver's licenses so they can be accepted on commercial flights.
