Idaho Students Back ‘Black Lives Matter’ Parking Lot Mural

MOUNTAIN HOME, Idaho (AP) — School administrators in southwest Idaho say a mural has to go because its location on a parking spot in a school parking lot violates policies.

But, students say the real problem is the content of the art that's a portrait of a black woman with a "Black Lives Matter" caption. About 100 students this week have taken part in a silent protest at the mural at Mountain Home High School. On Wednesday, students continued their protest while counter-protesters waived Confederate flags across the street.

The mural is one of several that are part of a fundraiser for homecoming with students buying parking spots to paint pre-approved murals. Mountain Home School District Superintendent James Gilbert says the mural's message isn't a problem, but a school principal erred in approving the use of the parking lot.
