BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A southwest Idaho woman who tried to hire a hit man to kill her husband has been sentenced to seven and a half years in prison.

Thirty-three-year-old Monique Christine Martinez of Nampa received the sentence Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Boise. She pleaded guilty in May to one count of use of interstate commerce facilities in the commission of murder-for-hire. Prosecutors say Martinez used Facebook to contact a person in California to hire someone to kill her husband.

Court documents say that on Oct. 17 Martinez met with a person she thought was a hit man but instead was an undercover FBI agent. Prosecutors say Martinez gave the agent $350 to kill her husband, promised more, and provided details on the best location for the killing.
