BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Boise resident Sherrie Blair says she was surprised when a city official said her neighbors had been complaining about her noisy pets.

Blair told KBOI-TV that it was the first complaint she's had about the 23 exotic birds living in her garage and house.

The city code enforcement officer gave her a letter explaining which code she's violating and giving her 20 days to fix the problem. But there's no code specific to pets, so the city says Blair's parrots and other birds fall into the livestock category.

Blair must remove all but six of the birds or face a $1,000 fine, six months in jail or one year of probation.

She says she plans to downsize but is having difficulty choosing which birds to say goodbye to.
