In the event of a zombie apocalypse, it looks like we need to road trip to Elko, Nevada. It's good to know these types of things ahead of time.

If all the people trying to hit it big in Jackpot become zombies, our road trip to the Cortez Gold Mine is not gonna be a fun one.

Believe it or not, talking about zombie apocalypse preparations is not my idea. It's a new list of places shared by Only In Your State. They compiled all the best places in Nevada to hide out if this happens. I thought that might be a good option to consider since many of our hideouts in Southern Idaho are rather famous and likely to be crowded when the you-know-what comes down.

One of the top 3 locations in Nevada that Only In Your State recommended was the Cortez Gold Mine in Elko. They mentioned the water that's available there and the obvious shelter, but last time I checked that's still an active mine. Who wants to be dodging bulldozers when you're making a break for the underground?

There's one more teeny tiny little issue. When they say this mine is near Elko, they're being really optimistic. It's easily a 3 1/2 hour drive from Twin.

On the good news front, according to the people that operate this mine, there's plenty of gold to be had. So, we're likely to return to the world once the zombies are gone with plenty of bling.
