UPDATE: The interstate is fully open as of 9:55am.

HAZELTON, Idaho (KLIX)-East bound lanes of Interstate 84 are closed while crews clean up after a semi-truck crash spilled hazardous materials. According to Idaho State Police the Westbound lanes are open to traffic.

Travelers are being diverted around the crash site. Just before 8:30 Wednesday night police say a semi pulling a cargo tanker had a tire blow out east of Hazelton. The driver 48 year old Matthew Eveland of Pocatello tried to keep going when his truck was hit by another semi carrying onions.

The onion truck caught fire while the tanker went off the road and rolled, spilling a hazardous chemical. The spill completely shut down the interstate for several hours. The driver of the onion truck, Christopher Torrance of Oregon was flown to St. Luke’s Magic Valley. Again the Eastbound lanes continue to be closed while crews clean up the site.
