TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KLIX) – If you need to a report a suspected wildlife crime, don’t be surprised when you call the hotline and the state police answer the phone.

Due to changes in a contractor used for Idaho’s Citizens Against Poaching hotline, a private organization funded by citizens to promote the ethical use of wildlife resources, Idaho State Police is now fielding the calls.

ISP in late January began fielding calls made to the hotline from people reporting suspected fish and wildlife crimes, according to the Idaho Department of Fish and Game. ISP forwards the information to Fish and Game enforcement officers to investigate.

The hotline is to only be used for fish and wildlife crimes, says Chris Wright, Idaho Fish and Game’s assistant enforcement bureau chief.

“For general questions and non-violation calls," he said in a prepared statement, "we ask the public to call their nearest Fish and Game regional office.”

The hotline can be reached at 800-632-5999.

Suspected wildlife violations may be reported anonymously, 24/7.  Cash rewards are available to callers who provide information leading to the citation of suspected wildlife law violators. Reports can also be made online.
