Like it or not, heavy metal and its imagery has become a fashion statement in recent years. With the least likely retailers now fully stocked with all of the rock and metal staples, it has become commonplace to see celebrities rocking shirts from bands like Slayer, Iron Maiden and Metallica regardless of whether they even listen to these bands. BuzzFeed Mexico pointed this out to Metallica's James Hetfield, who sat down and reacted to shots of celebrities sporting 'Tallica threads in the video above.

Hetfield is admittedly not the best at identifying these celebrities, at least by name, which makes the game even more fun. Up first is Mary-Kate Olsen, who is seen with a "Damage Inc." shirt and the frontman questions whether she is an actual fan, also mentioning the new album, Hardwired... To Self-Destruct, may not be for her.

He also runs through shots of Taylor Momsen (The Pretty Reckless), calling her "goth Madonna" and notes the similarities between her hair and bassist Robert Trujillo's. As he holds up a picture of Avril Lavigne, he jokes, "That's the singer for Nickelback, right?" Admiring her "Unforgiven" shirt, he went on to explain that he's met Lavigne and commented that she's nice.

Also featured is Ryan Gosling, whom Hetfield identified but was unable to recall the actor's name. 5 Seconds of Summer also made the cut, though he mistook him for a member of One Direction, quipping "Five Seconds of Directions" after learning the band name. "I mean that's Load, Reload era, that's ballsy," said Hetfield about the shirt seen in that photo.

There will be plenty of new Metallica merch for celebrities to scoop up as the legendary thrashers are set to drop Hardwired... To Self-Destruct on Nov. 18. The album will serve as the successor to 2008's Death Magnetic and pre-orders can be placed here with plenty of bundle options and new items to peruse.
