Jury Convicts Jerome Man After Police Stand-off

BOISE, Idaho (KLIX) A Jerome man has been convicted by a federal jury for unlawful possession of firearms after a police stand-off earlier this year.

U.S. Attorney Wendy Olson says Daniel Andrew Mills, 41, fled from a Jerome County Sheriff's Deputy in January after an attempted traffic stop in the early morning. Police say Mills exceeded speeds of 100 mph and eventually crashed into a fence and parked car. Mills refused to get out of the vehicle and pointed a shot gun out of the car's window several times. Eventually a Twin Falls County negotiating team was able to talk Mills out of the standoff and arrested him.

Police found a loaded shotgun and a loaded .25 pistol inside the crashed car. Mills had been on supervised release for a prior federal conviction for unlawfully possessing a firearm.  Mills originally had been convicted of assault with intent to commit a serious felony, aiding and abetting delivery of controlled substance, escape, forgery, and possession of controlled substance. Mills faces up to ten years in prison, with sentencing set for early 2017.
