Left 4 Dead 2 Unedited Finally Sees The Light of Day In Australia

Five years after it originally unleashed a zombie apocalypse on the rest of the world, Left 4 Dead 2 has finally broken through the Australian censors and made it to store shelves in the land down under.

IGN is reporting that the unedited PC version of Left 4 Dead 2 received an R18+ rating from the Australian Classification Board, stating that the game has "High impact violence, blood and gore," after it originally barred the game from distribution in the country back in 2009. This comes from the Australian government voting on a new "R18+" classification back in 2012 which went into effect in January of 2013.

An edited version of the game did see an Australian release in 2009 under an MA15+ rating, as the board agreed that "the element of violence in the game has been sufficiently modified and is now able to be accommodated within the MA15+ classification." Valve submitted the edited version after an unsuccessful appeal of the board's original decision in which the board proclaimed it had "a level of violence which is high in impact, prolonged, repeated frequently and realistic within the context of the game"

We're happy to see that Australians now get to enjoy the full L4D2 experience, even if it's just on PC for now, and hopefully other games that were banned in the country will take this as a cue to try and follow Left 4 Dead 2's lead.
