BOISE, Id. (KMVT/KSVT) Multiple sources are pointing to local 5th district judge Richard Bevan as the next possible U.S. District Judge.

The White House is now vetting the candidate. Boise attorney Erika Malmen is no longer being considered according to a report in Wednesay’s Spokesman-Review. Both Malmen and Bevan were proposed by Idaho Senators Jim Risch and Mike Crapo. Federal District judges are nominated by the president and confirmed by the Senate.

Bevan has served as a 5th district judge for the past 12 years and previously practiced law in Twin Falls. He also served as Twin Falls County prosecutor. Bevan holds both bachelor’s and law degrees from Brigham Young University.
