BLAINE COUNTY, Id. ( KMVT - KSVT ) A skier is seriously injured after an avalanche in the Warm Springs Creek drainage in Blaine County, also referred to as “Baldy out of bounds.”

According to the Sawtooth Avalanche Center, the D2 size avalanche buried the skier two feet under snow after the victim hit a tree. His partner was able to quickly dig him out, but not before he sustained serious chest and internal injuries.

The avalanche was roughly 120 feet wide and slid nearly 1300 vertical feet. Officials warn recent snow conditions make human triggered avalanches likely in the area. Photo courtesy of USFS Sawtooth Avalanche Center.
