NAMPA – A man who bit off part of a woman's ear must serve at least five years in prison for his crime.

Jose Pena Castro, 31, of Ontario, Oregon, pleaded guilty to a charge of mayhem. Mayhem refers to unlawfully removing part of someone's body.

On Wednesday, Third District Judge Christopher S. Nye sentenced Castro to ten years in prison. He must serve five years before becoming eligible for parole. He must also pay $245 in court fines.

According to court records, a woman told Caldwell police that Castro bit off her ear. Police responding to the Sept. 6, 2014 incident located a missing piece of her ear in a bedroom.
