Maniac Mansion Devs Announce New Point & Click Adventure, Thimbleweed Park
Ron Gilbert and Gary Winnick have returned the genre that made LucasArts a househouse name with Thimbleweed Park.
Former LucasArts and Maniac Mansion developers Ron Gilbert and Gary Winnick have launched a Kickstarter campaign for Thimbleweed Park, the duo's first 2D point-and-click adventure made in years. Gilbert is a designer, writer and programmer known for designing Maniac Mansion and Monkey Island. Winnick is known for being the graphics artist for Maniac Mansion as well as being the Art Director for Monkey Island.
Thimbleweed Park is going to be a spiritual successor to Maniac Mansion and Monkey Island. Its story focuses on two washed-up detectives who must investigate a dead body found on the outskirts of town. In Maniac Mansion-fashion, you'll be able to switch between five characters while exploring the twisted themes of Thimbleweed Park.
As of this article's publication, Thimbleweed Park's Kickstarter campaign is sitting at 950+ backers and over $35,500 pledged of its $375,000 goal with 29 days left to go. The game will cost $20 when it launches in June of 2016 (as long as the campaign was successful).
