KETCHUM, Idaho (AP) — Three more elk have died after apparently eating poisonous plants in central Idaho.

The Idaho Mountain Express reports (http://bit.ly/1Pj0acp ) that two mid-valley residents say they found the dead elk in the snow north of Hailey on Tuesday. They followed the animals' tracks back to a house with yew shrubs planted in the yard and notified the Idaho Department of Fish and Game.

Department spokesman Kelton Hatch says a conservation officer found yew material in the stomach of one of the elk. Yews are evergreen shrubs used in landscaping, but they are toxic to many animals and sometimes humans. Less than a week ago, 10 elk also died after eating yew plants at Hailey Cemetery. Hatch says elk will be nibbling on whatever's available in the valley as long as there is snow in the hills.
