Sonya Blade and her ex-husband, Johnny Cage, join their daughter, Cassie, to become Earthrealm's protectors one more time in Mortal Kombat X. That's if they don't kill each other first.

NetherRealm Studios has released the newest trailer for Mortal Kombat X and it elaborates more on the complicated history of its new heroine, Cassandra "Cassie" Cage. It's a given now that MKX takes place 25 years after the events of MK9, so of course its characters have gotten a bit older, perhaps settled down and had some children along the way. We shouldn't be surprised that Cassie ended up being the perfect hybrid of her parents, Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade. With one of Cassie's fighting styles catering to her father and another playing like her mother, we figured that Johnny and Sonya wouldn't be playable characters in MKX due to their ages, and we're glad we were proven wrong. During the 25 years since we last seen them, Johnny and Sonya haven't lost a thing, except their marriage. That's right, the fighting game genre's super couple, which I entitle "Jonya Blage," have parted ways in divorce, but that won't stop them from ripping heads off when it comes to protecting Earthrealm. We're just glad Sonya Blade is actually wearing normal clothes this time.

This new trailer also features Shinnok and Jax, with Johnny and Sonya seen fighting the MK4 villain in a cutscene. IGN recently mentioned that these two characters were playable in MKX's Story Mode, suggesting they're on the full roster. We also see Kenshi back in the fray, which corroborates our report of him being playable in the mobile version of the game, suggesting he's playable on the main game. Of course, no Mortal Kombat X trailer isn't complete without the tease of a new Fatality, and the "Here's Johnny!" finishing move might be our new favorite.

The Cage family comes back together on April 14 when Mortal Kombat X Shadow Kicks its way to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC.

It's time to update the list:
