MOSCOW, Idaho (AP) — Moscow city officials have asked the Idaho State Police to investigate after a 46-year-old Moscow man died at a medical facility with Moscow Police Department officers present.

Officials in a statement released Wednesday say John Hukill became combative Tuesday and died at the Gritman Medical Center after having a heart attack. Officials say officers earlier responded to a report of a man acting strangely in the city and took Hukill to the center for evaluation. Officers returned after Hukill left the center and escorted him back inside.

Center staff decided to place Hukill under a physician's hold, involuntarily detaining him. An officer was assigned to stay with Hukill. Officials say Hukill became combative at 9:30 p.m. and two more officers arrived, but Hukill went into cardiopulmonary arrest.
