NAMPA, Idaho (AP) — A 17-year-old Nampa High School student has been arrested for bringing an unloaded gun to campus.

A Nampa School District spokeswoman says administrators and school resource officers found the student Wednesday after a tip and arrested him without conflict. There was no disruption at the school.

The teen told officials he brought the handgun to campus for his own safety after he was involved in an altercation off campus earlier this week.

The student has been suspended.
