Tool drummer Danny Carey told a fan that the band’s long-awaited fifth album is set to be released in April.

He was recorded making the comment while meeting fans at the annual NAMM music convention in Anaheim, Calif., over the weekend. A fan asked him about the status of the LP, while filming the moment on his phone, apparently without Carey’s knowledge.

In the clip, Carey is heard saying “April” before adding, “That’s the plan, anyway.”

In 2017, the drummer said that the follow-up to 2006’s 10,000 Days would “definitely” arrive in 2018. He was proved wrong, but over the past year Tool provided updates that seemed to offer hope to their patient fans.

In March, they confirmed recording work had begun, and in April they released an instrumental of a new song titled “Descending,” which had been part of their live set for some time but never previously recorded. In June, frontman Maynard James Keenan predicted a 2019 release. “I’ll go on record now saying you’re gonna see some new music next year," he said. Earlier this month he reported that recording was complete and the mixing process had begun.

Previously, Keenan hinted at his frustration over the lack of progress. “Started getting music files from the boys w the word "final" in the title a few months ago after 11 years of begging,” he said in February 2018. “That, in theory, means the tracks won’t change out from under me while I’m trying to write stories and melodies to them. In theory.”

If the April date turns out to be accurate, Tool’s fifth album will arrive between 4,717 and 4,747 days since the release of 10,000 Days on May 2, 2006.
