SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah prosecutors are moving to drop domestic violence charges against Olympic gold-medal skier Picabo Street.

Street was facing misdemeanor charges after prosecutors say she threw her 76-year-old father down the stairs and locked him in the basement during a fight at her home near Park City.

Her lawyer says she was defending herself during the Dec. 23 incident. Prosecutors say in documents filed Thursday that the matter shouldn't be handled in court but sent to the state office that investigates abuse of vulnerable adults.

A judge hasn't yet approved the move. Nels Holmgren, director of the Division of Aging and Adult Services, says he can't comment on specific cases. Messages seeking more detail from prosecutors and Street's attorney weren't returned Friday. The 44-year-old Street won a gold medal at the 1998 Winter Olympics in the women's super-G.
