The Big N allies with the hottest mobile game developer in Japan to have the Mushroom Kingdom cross over into one of the highest-selling games on the smartphone market, and it's coming to the New 3DS.

Venture Beat reports that GungHo Online Entertainment and Nintendo are working together to make Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition. For those who haven't tried it yet, Puzzle & Dragons is an immensely popular mobile app series in Japan (and worldwide), which makes nearly a $1 billion annually on the iOS and Android formats -- more than 10 percent of the population in Japan actively plays it. GungHo released Puzzle & Dragons Z for the 3DS in 2013, which was met with a high number of sales (Japan only). This new version of the game plays almost exactly the same, but features Mushroom Kingdom characters throughout the game.

Puzzle & Dragons will launch on April 29 for $33 on Nintendo 3DS in Japan. Unfortunately, there is no word on a western release, but it's Mario, so there's a good shot it'll make it stateside eventually. If you want to pull yourself out of the red, just release this game for smartphones. That's all we're saying, Nintendo.
