JEROME, Idaho (KLIX) – Rescue crews are at the Snake River Canyon helping a 21-year-old female who became stranded in the canyon after becoming sick while hiking.

The female was hiking with her brother in the canyon when she became ill, according to Lori Stewart, spokeswoman for the Twin Falls County Sheriff's Office. They attempted to use the BASE jumper trail, but couldn’t make it out of the canyon.

Emergency crews, including the Twin Falls Fire Department, are with her now. Instead of taking the woman up the canyon, Stewart said, they plan to bring her to the river, put her in a boat, and bring her to the boat docks.

Stewart said a medical condition may have caused the illness.
