BOISE, Idaho (KLIX)- The Idaho National Guard is mourning one of its own who passed away this week.

Idaho National Guard officials announced that retired Maj. Gen. John Kane died on the 31st of May 2016.  Maj. Gen. Kane served the state and nation for 43 years, 10 as Adjutant General for the State of Idaho Military Division according to the office of Major General Gary Sayler.

Governor Butch Otter expressed his condolences to the family in a statement saying “Jack and I have been great friends since we were boys growing up here in the valley.  I’ve never known a better man or one I trusted more.  General Kane was admired for his toughness, his professionalism and his military bearing.  But most of all I valued Jack’s steadfast friendship and wise counsel.  Miss Lori and I are keeping Sandra and the Kane family in our prayers.”

Maj. Gen. Kane is a Boise State graduate of 1970 with a Bachelors in Business. He enlisted in the military in 1962 with the Idaho National Guard. He served as the Idaho National Guard Director of Plans, Operations and Training, Chief of Staff, Deputy Commander State Area Command and The Adjutant General.  Maj. Gen. Kane will be buried at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery with full military honors.
